BOURBON - The top of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference standings was on the line Tuesday as the battle of the last two unbeaten teams took place at the Trojan Trench.
Behind its heavy-hitting lineup, Pioneer came away with the straight-set win over Triton to remain undefeated in the HNAC and in sole possession of first place.
“They are not as strong as they used to be (state champs last year), but they are very good,” said Triton head coach Derek Eveland. “They are fundamentally sound. The first two games it was us with a tip or a push and them with a hit every time. You are not going to win against Pioneer doing that. They can be aggressive with their serves and miss a bunch, but they are good enough at serve-receive that they get it back. I thought we’d come out and challenge a little bit better than we did.”
