Utility work to close State Road 331 south of Mishawaka

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 331 between Tyler Road and Old Indiana 331/U.S. 20 beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The road will be closed while NIPSCO removes casing from the gas transmission under the road. State Road 331 is expected to reopen in mid-October.

Drivers should seek an alternate route. The official detour will follow U.S. 20, U.S. 31, U.S. 30, State Road 331, and U.S. 6.

In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state.
