Town Council considers putting ordinances online

He believes it would behoove the council to consider a more in-depth service, similar to what the surrounding towns use. “If you’re not a big enough, basically, to have it in-house where you’re putting it up on your own and maintaining it, especially in a secure way, where somebody isn’t tweaking parts of it, I think you’re better off going with a service that publishes and maintains it for you.”

He went on to explain that one company he found would also help electronically organize and bring up to date previous ordinances, something that would be helpful for municipal employees when required to look for old records. At present, Bremen has two quotes. One company quoted $12,000 a year, and their services include updating the ordinances yearly.

Another company is the service that several local communities, including Nappanee, Bourbon, Bristol, and Culver, all use. It was this one that Wagner recommended: “It’s not inexpensive, but I think it’s a good value.”

The council also discussed putting up notices of public meetings and hearings on the town’s website and electronic message board on the corner of Bowen Ave. and Plymouth St. “That one inch legal column in the paper: I don’t know if anyone really reads that or has an easy time doing it, but having the ability to put things like that on the website, I thought, was something you may want to pursue,” said Wagner.
