SC Meet the Candidates Night scheduled for Wednesday

Starke County residents have a chance to hear from some of the individuals running for office, locally and at the state level, during Wednesday’s Meet the Candidates Night.

It is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox.

Organizers have sent out emails, made calls, attended party meetings, and promoted the event on air and in the newspaper in order to give all candidates an opportunity to participate.

Confirmed participants include Lauri Venckus and Monica Miller, the candidates running for Starke County Treasurer, and five of the individuals running for the three open County Council - At Large seats, including Donald Binkley, Charles Estok, Kay Gudeman, Earl Todd Leinbach, and Karl Swihart.

Attendees and listeners will also hear from Bradley Hazelton and Mark Gourley, the candidates seeking the District 1 County Commissioner position, as well as Lee Nagai, who is running for one of the two open Oregon-Davis School Board seats.

In addition to the local people running for office, certain candidates looking to retain their seats in the upcoming election, such as incumbent State Representatives Jim Pressel and Doug Gutwein and existing Senators Mike Bohacek and Ed Charbonneau, will also be in attendance.

The Starke County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event in conjunction with Kankakee Valley Broadcasting and the Starke County Leader. The event will be broadcasted to K99.3 WKVI so individuals who cannot attend in person will have a chance to tune in live on air or online at wkvi.com

Attendees will have the opportunity to write and submit a question for possible consideration. If you're unable to make it but would like to ask a question, please enter it into the following form: Questions for the Candidates. Questions submitted online will be considered as time allows.

In accordance with state and county guidelines, masks will be required when at least six feet of social distancing cannot be maintained. For additional details, check out the Meet the Candidates Night event page.
