Election Night saw the continuation of Republicans winning the majority of the contested seats this race. One of the more heated races was the Sheriff’s position. Republican incumbent Matt Hassel squared off against Democrat challenger Jeffrey Sharp. The result of the race didn’t come at high noon like in the old Western movies, rather it arrived later that night. In the end, Hassel garnered 66.47% of the votes while Sharp came away with 33.53%.
In the battle for the County Council, the Republicans dominated with Deborah Johnson, Will Patterson, Nicole Cox, and Adam Faulstich all winning their respective races.
County Commissioner Stan Klotz won re-election over Democrat challenger Jason Haines, 70.50% to 29.50% respectively.
Overall, there were 12,933 total votes cast for this election. Marshall County has 29,743 registered voters. That means that voter turnout was 43.48%.
Out of the 12,933 votes 8,832 were cast on Election Day. There was 917 paper absentee and 3,184 walk-in absentee votes. Finally, there were three provisional votes.
Straight party votes were: 4,826 for the Republican Party, 959 for the Democratic Party, and 1 for the Libertarian Party.
