Jamie Gruszczynski selected as recipient of 2020 Nursing Excellence Award

KNOX — Northwest Health - Starke recently announced that Jaime Gruszczynski, RN is the recipient of its 2020 Nursing Excellence Award.

This peer-nominated award, created in honor of 2020 being the “Year of the Nurse,” and in recognition of the critical role nurses are playing in treating patients throughout the COVID pandemic, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.

Jaime was nominated by her colleagues for her outstanding contributions towards patient care and positive attitude. Patients often recognize her by name when providing positive feedback about care they have received.

“Northwest Health - Starke is fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Jaime Gruszczynski on staff. Nurses who know the importance of exemplary care and compassion, who understand the importance of teamwork, who can step in during times of crises, and who are champions of our entire nursing team,” said Ashley Dickinson, CEO of Northwest Health - Starke. “With so much focus this year on the selfless efforts of caregivers like Jaime, it is a pleasure to acknowledge the important contributions of our nursing professionals.

Jaime joined Northwest Health - Starke in 2017 as a nurse in the hospital’s Emergency Department, where she continues to work today. She is also very involved in the community. She and her husband recently organized a collection of school supplies for students at their local school. A truck was filled with school supplies to be distributed to students that were missing supplies needed for their classwork. School supply costs increased this year for most students, due to COVID-19. And this year, supplies can’t be shared among classmates. Jaime recognized the need in a normal return-to-school situation with underfunded children and took an extra step further to help in the midst of the pandemic.

In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Jaime received a cash prize and a quintessential book on nursing, written by Florence Nightingale in 1859, that remains relevant to today’s modern nursing attitudes and skills.
