Yeo, Mercer named to IBCA All-State lists

INDIANAPOLIS — Area standouts Clay Yeo of Triton and Mack Mercer of Plymouth have both been selected as first team picks on the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association’s 2013 All-State lists.
Yeo is one of 15 players to be named to the association’s senior All-State list, while Mercer is one of 15 juniors named to the IBCA’s Underclass All-State first team.
Mercer was also invited to play in the prestigious Indiana-Kentucky Junior All-Star Series as one of the core six of just 18 players nominated to the home-and-home series, scheduled for June 7 and 8. Sites and times of the games will be announced later.
Yeo, a 6’6” Valparaiso recruit, will conclude his high school career at this weekend’s Class A State Finals at the Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where Triton will play Borden in the Trojans’ fourth trip to state in the past six seasons. Game time is set for 10:30 a.m. ET.
He leads Triton with 26.3 points, 7.96 rebounds and three assists per game to go with 46 blocked shots and 44 steals in 24 games played this year.
Already Triton’s record holder in single-season, single-game and career points scored, Yeo owns 1,966 points over his four-year career, just 13 points shy of the Marshall County scoring record of 1,979 set by 2005 Plymouth grad and Huntington University standout Kyle Benge.
Mercer, a 6’9” forward for the Pilgrims, helped lead Plymouth to a stealer 21-4 finish and the team’s first sectional championship since 2010 this season. He notched 19 points per game with 8.47 rebounds and 3.26 blocks an outing while dishing out 58 assists and coming away with 18 steals in 23 games this year.
Along with Yeo’s and Mercer’s first-team selections to the IBCA All-Star teams, LaVille’s Andrew Hostetler and Bremen’s Ethan Pike were singled out for honorable mention Senior All-State honors, while Culver Community’s Trent Elliott and John Glenn’s Jake Strong were given Underclass All-State Honorable Mention distinctions.
