Triton students visit JA Finance Park

Staff Writer

Triton Jr.-Sr. High School eighth graders visited Junior Achievement's Finance Park in Ft. Wayne to have practical experience with the business/finance principles they have been studying in Mrs. Tracie Vermillion's business class.
The students were given a life scenario with their career, monthly and annual income, marital status, and number of children. They were asked to create a budget by allocating all of their income into the budget categories on the iPads. After creating their budget, the students used the iPads to shop for items in their budget categories then went around to the replicated store fronts to make their purchases. The scenario often threw them life situations causing students to make decisions on how to alter their purchases to fit their budgets. It was a very worthwhile and eye opening experience for the students. Many were surprised they couldn't afford the house or car they wanted with their given income.
