PLYMOUTH — Robert Ray Good, 87, residing in Plymouth, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 6, 1925 in South Bend, a son of Rex Vernon and Bessie Carrie (Woodcox) Good, and has lived in the area most of his life.
On Nov. 8, 1943 in Rochester, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Wanda Alice Green. This past November, they celebrated 69 years of marriage.
He was inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 3, 1943. While serving in the Pacific, on his 20th birthday, Aug. 6, 1945, the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. He always credited his mother’s fervent prayers for his safe return home. Bob was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant on April 23, 1946. Following his service in the war, he returned home to his bride and family, and began working for the Studebaker Corp. in South Bend. Bob was a man of many talents, and a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t repair or build. Over the years he worked on the railroad, built houses, and did roofing and plumbing. He also worked part-time for Brite-Way where he had many lasting friendships, and worked for Reliable Dairy as well. He retired in 1988 following 21 years as a serviceman for NIPSCO.
Bob was a man who loved the Lord, his family, his country and his church. He and Alice have been attending South Side Church of God in South Bend, and for many years, attended the Church of God in LaPaz. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #365, North Liberty. 
He is survived by his loving wife Wanda Alice, his three daughters, Roxie (Fred) Kline of Buchanan, Mich., Jennifer (Edward) Leary of Plymouth, Julie (Dan) Hyche, of Plymouth, his sons, Timothy (Susan) Good of LaPaz, and Mathew (Susan) Good of Lakeville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Bonnie (Glen) Martin of Plymouth, and Betty Kline of Niles, Mich., and a brother, John (Wanda) Good of Traverse City, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Susan who died at birth, and a brother, Deverl Good.
Services celebrating the life of Robert Good will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at South Side Church of God, 7351 U.S. 31 South, South Bend. Rev. Keith Stork and Rev. Greg Crump will officiate. Military rites will follow. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the Church. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
