ARGOS — Robert Hugh Barcus Sr., 62, of Argos passed away May 22, 2011 at 5:49 p.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 2, 1948 in Plymouth to Charles and Evalena (Howard) Barcus. He lived almost his entire life in Marshall County, residing in Argos since 1978.
July 15, 1972 he married Darlene Wallace.
He worked for Shamrock Homes in Plymouth from 1978 to 2011, having just recently retired.
He graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1968.
He served in the United States Army from Jan. 7, 1969 to Jan. 6, 1971. He was honorably discharged from the military after serving in Vietnam. He was awarded several medals and citations, including the bronze star for valor.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Barcus of Argos; two sons, Robert H. Barcus Jr. and William R. Barcus, both of Argos; mother, Evalena Barcus of Plymouth; five sisters, Laura (Harold) Stiles; Sharon (Dale) Kamp; Jean (Bob) Rees; Ruth (Jack) Shorter all of Plymouth, and Linda (Phil) Keller of Argos; two brothers, Ed (Lenda) Barcus of Plymouth, and James and (Maryanne) Barcus of Frankfort, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Barcus; three sisters, Betty Lawson, Nancy Spiek, and Sandy Davenport; and one brother, Paul Barcus.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the funeral home, with Chaplin Tom Padberg officiating.
Burial will be at Walnut Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Argos, with military honors by the United States Army and Argos American Legion Post #68.
