Hodges bros come up big in Wabash win
Former Plymouth Rockie Austin Hodges came down with two interceptions, including one for a game-sealing score as Wabash College opened its season with a win over host Hanover Saturday, 33-12.
Hodges returned his second interception of the game 39 yards for a touchdown with 3:59 remaining to put the game out of reach. He also recorded four solo tackles and an assist.
Austin's younger brother and fellow PHS product Houston Hodges also had a big day as he opened the game with a 55-yard kick-off return and went 10 yards on a punt return later in the game. Houston had three tackles and several pass break-ups as Wabash

Bettcher and No. 6 USF lose heartbreaker
LaVille alum Aaron Bettcher finished with two catches for 22 yards as NAIA No. 6 University of Saint Francis lost a 15-14 heartbreaker to No. 20 St. Ambrose Saturday.
Saint Francis opened the scoring early in the first with a 15-play, 85 yard touchdown drive, but the kick failed. St. Ambrose answered back with a 14-play, 61-yard drive for a score of its own, and Quinn Treiber's kick left the Cougars trailing 7-6 until the fourth.
St. Francis retook the lead on a 70-yard catch and carry from quarterback Wesley Hunsucker to Austin Coleman, pushing the Cougars to a 14-7 lead when Antoin Campbell ran it in for two extra points. But St. Ambrose again responded with a scoring drive of its own as Eric Williamson connected with Zach Grant on a 15-yard TD strike with 1:45 to play, and Mitch Overstreet hauled in another Williamson pass for the two-point conversion and the win.

Lacher lifts Lions past LaVille
Roberto Gonzalez combined with Sam Lacher in the 84th minute, and Lacher’s goal kept defending Northern State Conference-champion undefeated with a 2-1 victory over visiting LaVille Monday.
Danny Reynoso opened the scoring on a Rickey Reynoso assist in the fourth minute as the Lions jumped on top of their NSC foes early, but J.T. Saylor’s unassisted strike in the 73rd minute forced overtime at the match.
Austin Adams finished with five saves in goal, and C.J. Thornton recorded a pair of saves for Bremen.
Jeff Haygood finished with seven saves for the Lancers.
Both teams return to action Thursday when Bremen travels to Concord and LaVille hits the road for Elkhart Christian.

Bremen tops Triton
Bremen beat Triton on four courts, and the Lions handed the defending Northern State Conference-champion Trojans a 4-1 loss at home at DeSantis Courts Monday.
Brad Foster beat Jeff Ross in three sets at 1 singles as the Lions swept all three singles positions. Tommy Foster and Krent Hueni beat Darren Harrell and Jake Oldham in straight 6-1 sets for a match point at 2 doubles.
Triton’s only win came at 1 doubles, where Lucas Shafer and Pete Kauffman trumped Joe Zeltwanger and Nate Strehler in a nip-tuck three-setter, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.

CMA edges Riley
Justin Sitjar and Jorge Segura battled back from a loss in the first set to trump Riley’s Ryan O’Connor and Jacob Meilcarek at 2 doubles, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, and Culver Military Academy edged out visiting Riley 3-2 at home at the Gable Tennis Complex Monday.
Maudhuit put away Justin Gruber 6-0, 6-2, while Alex and Austin Proeh won in straight sets at 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0.

Plymouth falls at Marian
Plymouth took a tough loss in three competitive games on the road at Mishawaka Marian Monday, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20.
Andria Shook finished with 11 kills to lead the Lady Pilgrims attack, while Amber Redinger tallied nine kills with three blocks.
Haley Harrell passed out 29 assists, and Carly Baker notched four blocks for Plymouth, which slipped to 6-8 on the season.
The Pilgrims return to Northern Lakes Conference action at home against Warsaw Thursday.

CGA wins crosstown match
Culver Girls Academy beat crosstown-rival Culver Community on the road Monday, 25-19, 25-7, 25-16.
Katy Bjornson registered 10 kills and nine digs in a balanced effort for the Lady Eagles. Pita Navarro also finished with 10 kills, Paige Baldacci set 33 assists, and Sarah Boland served up six aces.

Plymouth beat Culver Girls Academy by four strokes, and the Lady Eagles earned a split with a five-stroke edge over Adams in a competitive three-way girls golf meet at Mystic Hills Monday.
Emily Berger led the Lady Pilgrims with a match-low 44, while Kelly Henderson carded a 50, and Lauren Rearick and Emily Denney both shot 51.
Samantha Seibel led the Eagles with a round of 46, Mackenzie Toth shot 48, and Maureen Reed and Gracen Hirschy carded dual 50s for CGA.

The eighth grade Lady Lions lost last night to NorthWood Middle School. Bremen extended the Panthers to three games but couldn’t get over the hump in the final set, falling 25-22, 18-25, 15-5.

The Bremen seventh volleyball team lost to Northwood, 25-20, 25-8.
Sara Knepper, Lexi Miller, MacKenzie Moren and Brooke Kertai were strong from the serving line. A perfect pass from Kenzie Flory set up Bailey Fritter for the only kill of the game for Bremen.
