Jimtown wallops Glenn
Alec Brown went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, and Jimtown simply walloped host John Glenn, 16-6, in a six-inning battle for the Northern State Conference lead in Walkerton Monday.
Jimmies starter Aubie Rubalcava threw a masterful five innings for the win, keeping Glenn batters guessing and working himself out of jams in the second and fourth innings with the Falcons threatening big run totals.
Jimtown started fast in the top of the first when Glenn third baseman Kyle Liedtky booted an Evan Oblinger grounder, Falcons starter Justin Gierlowski walked two, and Brown hit his first two-bagger of the night.
The second inning was more of the same as Gierlowski walked two more sandwiched around Liedkty’s second error before a two-out base hit by Nick Floyd.
The Falcons showed some life in the bottom of the inning when David Jaworski singled, Liedtky drew a walk, Austin Bloss followed a wild pitch with an RBI sacrifice, and Tyler Niespodziany got a hit followed by an RBI infield out from Cole Kaser that cut the Jimtown lead to 6-2.
But the Jimmies put up two more runs in the third, then scratched out six during a big fourth inning that featured Brown’s second RBI double, a two-run, 380-foot shot out over left from Michael Hobbs, and a Rubalcava bases-clearing double.
Jimtown improves to an even 3-3 and 2-0 in NSC play, while Glenn slips to 8-2 and 3-1 in the league.
