A 20-year-old Plymouth man was arraigned last Thursday on charges he had sex with a teen girl two years ago.

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office charged Edgar Herrera with two counts of child molestation on Friday and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to court documents, Plymouth police Det. Sgt. Leo Mangus said his department received a report in April from a representative of the Indiana Department of Child Services alerting police of Herrera's sexual relationship with a then-13-year-old girl. The assault allegedly happened in September 2016 when Herrera was 18.

Herrera was taken into custody on Monday, May 7.

He made an initial appearance in Marshall Superior Court I at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 10.

One of the child molestation charges is a Level 3 felony, while the other is a Level 4 felony. The Level 3 count is the most serious. It is punishable by three to 16 years if convicted.
