Area residents are encouraged to support local Culver merchants during Small Business Saturday, a day designated in 2010 to focus on small, local, brick and mortar entities whose financial stability helps the overall financial status of the entire community, and who keep Culver's commercial life active and economy healthier.

Several local stores and restaurants are offering in-house specials and other attractions during the event.

According to a 2004 study conducted by Chicago and Austin-based firm Civic Economics, for every dollar spent at a small local business, 32 cents leaves the local economy. But the same dollar at a chain store sees 57 cents leave the community (more than 50 percent of the dollar ceasing to impact the area in which it was spent)

The study overall found that locally owned and operated businesses have greater ties to their communities and thus positively affect economic growth, employment and income to a greater degree.
