NorthWood’s Olson is IBCA Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS — NorthWood junior forward Morgan Olson was selected as the District 1 girls IBCA Subway Player of the Week for her performances during the week of Dec. 17-22.
She was joined by a pair of players from Evansville Bosse in junior Perry Fairrow and senior Janisha Lindsey, Elkhart Memorial senior Markese McGuire, Park Tudor junior Trevon Bluiett and Indianapolis Marshall junior Dae’Shanique King as recipients in the awards program overseen by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Olson, a 5-11 junior forward, averaged 24.5 points and 12 rebounds in two games for the Lady Panthers (7-3). She began her week with 19 points and eight rebounds in a 62-21 victory over Fairfield. She then produced 30 points and 16 rebounds as the Panthers defeated South Bend Washington 70-61 in overtime.
Fairrow, a guard, averaged 28.8 points over four games in helping Bosse to a 4-0 week and the championship of the Toyota Classic. Lindsey averaged 25.5 points, 9.0 assists and 6.8 steals over four games. Her week included 19 points, 10 assists and six steals in a 71-61 win over Evansville Reitz; 22 points, 10 assists and five steals in a 58-49 victory over North Knox; 28 points, six assists and 13 steals in a 71-67 overtime win over Princeton; and 33 points, 10 assists and three steals in the setback to Mt. Carmel.
A 6-3 senior, McGuire tallied 37 points and five rebounds in leading Elkhart Memorial (4-2) to a 63-45 victory over Hobart in the Crimson Chargers’ only game of the week.
Bluiett, a 6-5 junior, produced 40 points and 11 rebounds as Park Tudor (5-1) fell 74-68 to North Central in its only game of the week.
King tallied 32 points, six rebounds and three assists as Indianapolis Marshall defeated Indianapolis Metropolitan 74-19 in its only game of the week. The 5-8 junior was 9-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-3 3-pointers, plus 12-of-13 on free throws in her big game for the Patriots (5-4).
This is the fifth season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the first season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a primary sponsor of the IBCA.
Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA’s three districts. Girls winners will be chosen from now through the week following March 2. Boys winners be selected from now through the week following March 23.
