Lady Pilgrims bow out with Penn loss

It was a tough finish to a strong season as Plymouth's girls basketball team suffered a season-ending, 67-26 loss to Penn at the Lady Pilgrims' home sectional at The Rock Wednesday night.
The contest was close for the first 13 minutes or so, but with around three minutes to go in the second quarter, Penn set up in a fullcourt trap, forcing seven consecutive Plymouth turnovers to spark a 17-0 run and jump out to a 29-12 halftime cushion.
The Pilgrims were led by Hunter Stevens' 10 points. She will graduate as the program's all-time leading scorer and the first Lady Pilgrim to surpass 1,000 points.
Penn post player Camryn Buhr led all scorers with 19. Kaitlyn Marenyi added 13.
Penn thus advances to play South Bend Washington in the tournament semifinal Friday night following an earlier 6 p.m. matchup between Riley and Mishawaka.
With the loss, the Pilgrims bow out of the season at 16-7. The team bids goodbye to three four-year starters in Stevens, Haley Harrell and Allie Wright and one three-year starter in Kaydon Fosler as well as Bailey Brown.
