BOURBON — Gregory L. Carswell, 58, of 11750 Gumwood Road, Bourbon passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 7 a.m. at home in the care of his family. He fought a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Greg was born the son of Loren R. Carswell and Susanna R. Burroughs Carswell April 4, 1953 in Parkview Hospital, Plymouth. He married Rebecca L. Eyrich June 30, 1990.
He is survived by his wife and their two children, Riley Dale Carswell and Bryce Gregory Carswell both at home.
He had been a resident of Marshall County all of his life. He worked as a maintenance worker for Marshall County Buildings and Grounds. He was a graduate of Culver Community Schools, class of 1971. He also attended the Bourbon First United Methodist Church and served as a trustee of the church.
Greg was very involved in community activities serving on the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board and was past president of the Fair Board in 2010. He enjoyed watching Riley and Bryce show 4-H dairy steers at the fair and Indiana State Fair. He was always helping kids at the fair. He loved attending auctions and working with Marshall County’s best auctioneers; Markley’s Triple M Auction and Ball Auction Services and driving antique John Deere tractors. Greg was an IHSAA sports official for 25 years including volleyball, basketball and baseball and a member of the Culver Young Farmers as well as the Marshall County Dairy Association.
His parents, Loren and Susanna Carswell of Culver, and his three sisters, Rae Anne Carswell, Karen Carswell and Rhonda Anderson also survive. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Shirley Eyrich; three brothers-in-law, Ernest Eyrich, Richard and wife Tina Eyrich and Douglas and wife Barbara Eyrich; and sister-in-law, Marcia and husband Craig Spaid as well as several nieces and nephews surviving.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 18, 2011 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the Bourbon Bible Church with Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bourbon.
The family requests memorial contributions are made to Marshall County Hospice and Palliative Care or the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board – Dairy Project.
