Early morning chase ends in Starke

JASPER/STARKE CO. — An early morning traffic stop ended with a driver attempting to flee by driving through farm fields and residents' yards.
Indiana State Police Master Trooper Aaron Correll was east bound on State Road (S.R.) 10 at County Road (C.R.) 500 E., at approximately 7:30 a.m., this morning, in Jasper County when he saw a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up drive off the road. As soon as Trooper Correll activated his emergency lights, the pick-up took off. The driver, later identified as Anthony Lennox, 36 of Rensselaer, drove east on S.R. 10 and made a right (south) onto C.R. 600 E. (this is also County Line road that separates Jasper and Starke Counties). As Lennox turned south, he went through the yard of a residence at 11734 N. 600 E. (Jasper County) and then proceeded through a farm field. He then made a U-turn and came back onto C.R. 600 E., going north through a stop sign at the intersection. Lennox continued north until he turned east onto C.R. 750 S. in Starke County. He drove east for approximately ¾ mile when his pick-up went off the roadway, through a farm field, then into a yard of a residence at 11475 W. 750 S., where the pick-up hit a fence and Lennox ran off from the pick-up.
Lennox ran east from the residence into a wooded area. A perimeter was set up around the area and Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Burke and his K-9 “Bolek” and ISP Detective Sergeant Rick Strong were able to track Lennox down to a residence at 11345 W. 750 S. in Starke County. Lennox was found hiding behind a barn at that residence covered with brush and an old door he had found. Lennox was taken into custody without incident.
At no time did Lennox attempt to enter any of the above residences.
Lennox was taken to Jasper County Jail where he is charged with: Habitual Traffic Violator for Life, Resisting Law Enforcement, Two counts of Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, multiple traffic violations, a Parole Violation for Burglary and an active warrant out of White County for Resisting Law Enforcement.
Agencies assisting: Instrumental in the capture of Lennox was Jasper County Deputy Brian Burke and his K-9 “Bolek”, Jasper County Sheriff Department, Starke County Sheriff Department, Department of Natural Resources and Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division.
