Drowning cited as cause of death

CULVER — Marshall County Deputy Coroners Ann Leed and Brigette Hite confirmed Tuesday afternoon that preliminary autopsy results on 22-year -old Valentine Sirghi of Plymouth died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning.

Sirghi drowned Sunday evening abouut 7:30 p.m. while swimming in Lake Maxinkuckee at Culver Town Park. He was under water for about 30 minutes, before his body was recovered and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased that same evening.

Final toxicology results will not be available until later this week and no further information is expected to be released until that time.
The investigation is being led by by the Indiana Department of Natural Resourses assisted by the Marshall County Coroner’s Office.

A final report will not be available until complete autopsy results are available and the Coroner’s Office and the Indiana DNR complete their investigations.
