Bi-County Tournaments tip off tonight

Three ranked Class A girls teams — who also happen to be sectional rivals — will take the floor separately tonight as the Bi-County Tournament kicks off at four local sites.
Class A No. 4 Oregon-Davis will try to avoid a third straight loss as it plays host to New Prairie at 6:30 p.m. EDT, while Class A No. 6 Triton takes on defending tournament champion Culver in a 6 p.m. rematch of a Northern State Conference game last Friday, and Class A No. 10 Argos puts its brand-new state ranking to the test against Bremen at home at 6:30 p.m.
The Dragons (11-4) are riding high after a convincing 63-44 defeat of OD last Thursday in which Argos outscored the Bobcats 20-4 in the fourth quarter in the absence of usual OD starter Jesse Averone, while Bremen (8-7) is trying to put together back-to-back wins after Rochester ended a five-game win streak on Jan. 10. Oregon-Davis (12-4) opens with New Prairie (7-8) as the team tries to regain the Bi-County title after a championship defeat at the hands of Culver unseated the four-peat champions last season, and the Bobcats are also looking to recover from their first back-to-back losses this season after following up Thursday’s loss at Argos with a defeat at the hands of Prospect, Ill. Saturday. The winner of those quarterfinals will face off in the early semifinal at LaVille Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Triton (10-4) will try to unseat the defending Bi-County champs in a second straight game against Culver (6-8) at 6 p.m. after handing the NSC foe a 45-36 loss at Culver last week. Fellow NSC competitors LaVille (3-11) and John Glenn (3-12) will vie in what’s sure to be a close game at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. The contest is a rematch of a Dec. 17 meeting in which the Lancers edged the Falcons 43-42, a game that marked the third time in the past four seasons the outcome between the Lancers and the Falcons has been determined by a single point. Winners of the Triton-Culver and LaVille-Glenn games will play in the late semifinal at 8 p.m. Thursday at LaVille.
Boys tournament openers are scheduled to follow the girls games in four doubleheaders tonight.
Argos (2-8) is looking for revenge against visiting Bremen (4-5) at 8 p.m. after a marathon double overtime loss to the Lions at Bremen Dec. 13. Oregon-Davis (0-9) continues to look for its first win of the season against New Prairie (7-4) at 8 p.m. EDT, and the winners of those games will play in the boys semifinals Friday at 6:30 p.m.
In the other boys bracket, LaVille (6-4) hosts Josh Anderson and Glenn (5-5) in a rematch of a 52-39 NSC loss Dec. 16, while Clay Yeo and Class A, No. 7 Triton (8-3) look to underline their one-point, 57-56 win at former Class 2A rank-holder Culver Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. game at The Trojan Trench. Those winners will play in the late semifinal Friday at 8 p.m. at the Dale E. Cox Gym.
Championships will take place Saturday at LaVille with the girls tipping off at 6:30 p.m., and the boys following at 8:30 p.m.
