FREMONT — Bertha Pearl Mersch, 87, of Jimmerson Lake, Fremont, died at 6:03 p.m. Feb. 10, 2011 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Angola.
She was born Nov. 3, 1923 in Clearwater, Neb., to Herman Axel Anderson and Flossie Pearl Bebee Anderson. She was married to Joseph Carl Mersch Nov. 29, 1941, in Clearwater, Neb. He passed away Dec. 21, 1992.
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Angola, and a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac. She was a homemaker and a farm wife helping her husband on the farm.
Bertha had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Fremont, for the past eight years and was a former resident of Winamac and Royal Center. She enjoyed working with puzzles, watching the birds and squirrels, gardening, and riding on the pontoon boat.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Bertha had a smile that lit up her face and made you want to smile.
Survivors include her daughters: Jeanette D. (William) Cady of Fremont, Janice Herrin of Lafayette, Jolene (A.J.) Loughran of Sterling, Colo., Judy (Butch) Shidler of Royal Center, and Joetta Sines of Royal Center; sons, John (Pat) Mersch of Peru, and Joe P. (Kerry) Mersch of Plymouth; and Jack Mersch, Bloomfield, N.M.; 21 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters: Selma Pins, Emma Hawk, Viola Anderson, and Elsie Anderson; and brothers: Virgil Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Orville Anderson.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac, Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. (EST) with Father Bill Kummer officiating.
Burial will take place in the St. Peter’s Cemetery, Winamac.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at Frain Mortuary, 305 E. Main St., Winamac.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
