‘Painter and Poet’ Millers set to return to Culver, reopen for business

Esther and Ward Miller, longtime proprieters of The Painter and the Poet Gallery at 307 North Main Street in Culver, announced last week their return to Culver after a 2011 move to Winona Lake. The couple plans to reopen their home-based business within a month, but as "The Painter and the Poet Studio," rather than "Gallery" as it was known before.

The name change, says Esther, reflects a more relaxed approach to the operation, which she says will now be open "by chance or appointment," rather than keeping regular hours. Esther, well known for decades in the area for her watercolor paintings of local scenes and structures, plans to work on new, original art once back in Culver.

Ward and Esther, who announced their departure for a retirement community last fall, say they're thrilled to be returning and look forward to interacting once again with their Culver friends. Though their new accommodations were "nice," says Esther, "I'm so happy and excited to be coming back. We love it in Culver and miss the people there."

Within the past year, the couple added recognition from Culver's Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce to their list of achievements. Their work may be seen and ordered online at www.painterandpoet.com.
