Melva Githens smiles at patrons visiting the Museum of Culver & Lake Maxinkuckee History located at 102 West Jefferson St., Culver. Hours of operation are Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

What was over 10 feet tall, weighted 4 to 6 tons, lived near Lake Maxinkuckee some 12,000 years ago, and is known as Opal?

Come and hear John Benedict’s fascinating account and see pictures of the discovery of the Mastodon that once called his farm home.

The event is presented by the Antiquarian & Historical Society of Culver on Saturday, August 24 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Culver Public Library.
