Corey said that she liked the fact that blood collected in the drive would be used in local hospitals. About 50 units of blood were collected throughout the day by the South Bend Medical Foundation.

    Pat Nettrouer, of Argos, stands with her favorite Santa doll in her living room. Nettrouer decorates each year with her collection of more than 630 different Santa Clauses. She has been collecting for about six years, and said that it takes her about a week and a half to put up all of her decorations for the holidays. "I just think they're cute," said Nettrouer about her Santas, smiling. Every room in Nettrouer's house has multiple Santa Clause dolls or decorations featuring Santa, including her bathroom.

Schoof excited the crowd with a basketball roll through a hole in a board, sponsored by the Athletic Booster Club and Oliver Ford. The idea is to roll the ball from one end to the other and through the hole — a feat no one has yet accomplished in five tries — and she did it! For her great roll, Andrea won a brand new 2012 Ford Focus from Oliver Ford.

    The Riverside Intermediate School Spell Bowl Team, under the direction of Coach Amy Lewis placed first in Class I at the district spell bowl competition which was held at North Liberty Elementary School on Thursday, November 17, 2011. The students spelled words like soup du jour to win the competition. Sydney Morris had a perfect score and Autumn Wilson and Grace Morris both had near perfect scores.
