NAPPANEE — After a year’s hiatus, Spring Into Art is back in Nappanee. Sponsored by the Friends of the Nappanee Public Library, the extravaganza of visual arts will be held once again at the Boys & Girls Club of Nappanee April 27 through 29. Fine art, free hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and more — it’s a celebration of the arts and the artistic process.
Make plans to take part in an exciting weekend bustling with shopping, learning, and inspiration for all ages. The art fair takes place at the Main Street Suites Building at 451 N. Main St. and will feature more than 50 exceptional artists working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, photography and much more. More than 30 items donated by participating artists will also be up for bids during a silent auction held through the course of the weekend.
“We’re very pleased with the quality of work represented by artists in this year’s show and also the number of new artists joining us,” said coordinator and artist, Jessica Flores. “Spring Into Art is the perfect place to find quality one-of-a kind items from dozens of talented artisans in one convenient place. Not only do you get to enjoy work in a wide range of media, but you have the chance to interact with the artists, see many of them at work at their booths, and even try your hand at some of the techniques in a free workshop, if you choose. It makes the artwork you purchase so much more meaningful when you experience that connection between the art and its creator.”
More than a dozen workshops will be offered and include jewelry-making, illustration, watercolor and pastel painting, charcoal drawing, photography and more. Pre-registration is recommended for these classes, all of which are free of charge. Call 574-773-7919, or visit www.nappanee.lib.in.us to register.
Open hours for the public are Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Admission and parking are free. For a $100 pledge to either purchase artwork during the show or as a gift in support of the program, guests get the chance to attend a special Purchase Award Sponsor Preview Reception Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.
“There is something for everyone at this event,” says Flores. “The collector has the chance to add to their collection of work from favorite returning artists and “scout” new talent while families looking for affordable fun can spend an entire day creating and learning about the arts first-hand.”
The purpose of Spring Into Art is to support the arts, to promote artists, and to benefit the Friends of the Nappanee Public Library. Funds are used throughout the year to bring the community enriching, educational and entertaining programs like Movies in the Park at Westside Park, continuing art exhibits and classes at the Library, and a program called Lunchin’ at the Library, where children receive free lunches and nutrition education during the summer months.
