PLYMOUTH — Detectives with the Indiana State Police are currently investigating a police involved shooting that occurred in northern Marshall County around 8:30 p.m. last night.
The shooting, which stemmed from a pursuit, ended in the death of one man.
Initial reports indicate that an officer with the Argos Police Department attempted to stop the driver of a Dodge pickup truck for a traffic infraction in the area of Michigan Road north of the town of Argos. The driver of the truck, Mark Albright, 62, of Plymouth, accelerated in an apparent attempt to flee. The officer pursued the truck for several minutes and was eventually assisted by officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Walkerton Police Department, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Albright led officers north on Michigan Road to U.S. 31 until he turned west on U.S. 6. He continued west for three miles before turning south on Quince Road. Albright then abruptly stopped his truck and exited and ran west from his vehicle ignoring police warnings.
Purportedly during the ensuing foot chase Albright brandished a gun and shot at officers. Police returned fire fatally striking Albright.
Albright was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he was pronounced dead.
No police officers or other parties were injured in the incident.
As is routine, the state police are investigating the circumstances around the police action shooting.
At this time the names of the officers involved in the shooting are being withheld. Information will be released as it becomes available.
