COLUMBIA CITY — The Lincoln Junior High wrestling team went 5-0 to win the Indian Springs Invitational Saturday.
After a slow start against Adam’s Central (66-34), the boys improved drastically in the next three rounds by beating Lakeland 103-6, Garret 90-18, and East Noble 102-10. They closed out the day on a high note, defeating a tough Indian Springs squad 68-48.
In a day where the young Rockies were shorthanded due to illness and injury it was a total team effort that got the victory.
“We have a lot of kids who wrestle above their weight to help the team, we have even more kids who don’t get to wrestle a lot but do a great job of pushing their teammates in practice,” said coach Phil Koops.
Lincoln wrestlers who were undefeated on the day were Cody Allmon, Micah Calhoun, Triston Rodriguez, Bodie Neidig, Jeremy Splix, Matt Thompson, Matt Friar, Zac Xaver, Brandon Mattix, Jake Sayton, and Damien White.
“We had a lot of young wrestlers show some really gutsy performances today even though they didn’t always come out on top,” said Koops. “I’ll never be able to recognize all the unsung heroes, but Kevin Sibal, Eric Marin, Terrence Hooten, Jesus Rubella, Chris Roberts, Colton Schuler and Nate Schlemmer all deserve some kudos for wrestling extremely tough on Saturday.”
Lincoln is undefeated so far this season and will be at LaVille today.
