BOURBON — After a pair of close contests last year, both Triton’s and Culver’s head coaches knew Friday night’s Northern State Conference kickoff at Triton was going to be a battle.
The game delivered as billed, but Michael Salary returned to power the Cavaliers’ running game, Culver’s defense delivered in the clutch, and in the end the visitors took a closer-than-the-final-score 21-13 victory over the host Trojans.
“They really did an outstanding job,” said Culver head coach Andy Thomas. “The game could’ve gone either way. They have an outstanding team, and their coaches did a heck of a job. They had a great plan and, like I said it could’ve easily gone either way. They played their hearts out.”
“We were fortunate,” he added. “Their kids showed a lot of hearts and guts, and our kids did also.”
One Cavalier who made an especially gutsy performance was senior running back Salary.
