LAKEVILLE — LaVille football head coach Brian Stultz and his staff spied something while watching Lake Station game film.
The Lancers converted that discovery into a 63-yard play action touchdown strike from quarterback Rod Bettcher to wide receiver Codee Kimbel on the night's first play from scrimmage, setting the stage for a not-as-close-as-the-score-looks 41-18 win over the visiting Eagles at Lancer Field Friday.
"We wanted to get off on the right foot," Stultz said. "We noticed on the film that our best receiver, Codee Kimbel, is faster than (Lake Station's) fastest corner, and we wanted to exploit that. Their corners are aggressive, and the play action held them and gave Codee enough time to get by. It was a big completion."
