PLYMOUTH — The Golf Channel Am Tour is coming to Swan Lake this weekend.
The Golf Channel Am Tour (GCAT), the largest amateur golf tour in North America, is to be returning to the Swan Lake Golf Resort after a year hiatus for the Heartland Open on Saturday and Sunday. The 36-hole tournament, featuring over 180 players from across Indiana and North America, will compete for the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships in September.
The Heartland Open at Swan Lake Golf Resort is the 16th Major of the Golf Channel Am Tour’s 2011 season. Each competitor will be teeing it up for one round on the Black course and one round on the Silver course. The Black course was recently re-routed in 2009 so that it now combines the two most challenging nines at Swan Lake, and The Silver course provides all players with a chance to shoot their career round.
The top finishers in each of 12 handicapped flights will earn an automatic invitation to the 2011 National Championships being held at the famed PGA WEST, home to the Bob Hope Classic, the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament, The PGA Grand Slam of Golf and The Skins Game.
The Golf Channel Am Tour is open to the public and provides the most professional tournament experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as offering access to some of the most renowned and challenging golf courses across the country. Over the past four years, the Golf Channel Am Tour has experienced remarkable growth with membership, increasing from 3,500 members in 2007 to more than 5,500 members currently. In the same span, local Golf Channel Am Tours have increased from 39 to more than 60 throughout North America, and the number of local tournaments has increased from 550 to more than 800.
