WALKERTON — LaVille’s Zoe Bulick went from safety valve to savior.
The junior guard’s game-tying 3-pointer with 3 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime where the Lancers eked out a 53-50 Northern State Conference girls basketball win over John Glenn at The Aerie Saturday.
Trailing 47-44 with just seconds to play, LaVille’s last-ditch effort looked dangerously close to breaking down altogether. After a deflection in the left corner, LaVille’s Kaitlyn Kopetski located a wide open Bulick two steps left of the top of the key for the clutch triple.
“Zoe is the safety valve; she’s supposed to stop (to the right of the top of the key),” LaVille head coach Kevin McCullough said. “Somehow the ball got deflected, and Zoe’s thinking, ‘I gotta keep going.’ She kept going on her own and (Kopetski) got the ball to her.
“You could tell as soon as she shot, ‘That ball’s going in; it’s drained,’” he continued. “Zoe played her best game ever.”
