Larry R. Welsh

CULVER — Larry R. Welsh, 85, of Culver, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 at home with family by his side. Larry was born April 17, 1928 in Baltimore, Md. to John Louis and Leonore Bentley Smith Welsh. He grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Culver with his family in the spring of his senior year in high school, graduating from Culver High in 1946. In that short time Larry met Frances B Flora and they were married Nov. 3, 1946. He was preceded in death by Frances on June 30, 2010.
Survivors include four daughters: Sharyl Welsh of Ellettsville; Cathy LaBombard of Richardson, Texas; Pamela Johnson (fiance´Jarrel Hartle) of Culver; and Jacqueline Sandlian (Dwayne) of Torrington, Wyo. He is also survived by his sister Betty (Maurice) Whittemore, New Palestine, and brother Alan (Marilyn) Welsh, Jasper; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; two cousins and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two great-grandchildren.
Larry was self-employed in construction and remodeling. He was a farmer in earlier years. He was a hard-working member of Culver Lions Club since 1947; a volunteer with Christmas in April/Rebuilding America since 1999; and served as an American Red Cross First Aid instructor in the 1960s and in disaster services in the 1970s.
He loved Jesus first and foremost, his family, his community and his country.
Larry willed his body to Indiana University Medical Center Anatomical Education Program. Two memorial services are offered to family and friends: Sunday, Sept. 1, 10:30 a.m., at Shalom Fellowship, 5699 10th Road, Bourbon (5 miles east of U.S. 31/Plymouth and 1 mile north of U.S. 30); and Tuesday, Sept. 3, 10:30 a.m. at Culver Lions’ Depot, Lakeshore Drive.
