PLYMOUTH — Loretta Schmidt has been named President of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Plymouth Campus, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
With more than 20 years experience as a registered nurse, Schmidt’s background includes critical care, home care, emergency medicine, medical surgery, quality, accreditation, risk and department and executive leadership roles.
Recently, she served as interim president and chief operating officer/chief nursing officer in Plymouth. Prior to that role, she was the director of quality for St. Joseph facilities in Mishawaka and Plymouth.
According to medical center officials, Schmidt’s service played a role in the recent distinction received by St. Joseph’s as a recipient of the Truven Health’s Top 15 Health System Award. The Plymouth hospital also received the top 100 hospital award in 2012 while Schmidt was in charge.
“Loretta has been an integral part of our Saint Joseph leadership for a long time and I am honored to announce her new role within our organization,” said St. Joseph Regional Medical Center president ant CEO Albert L. Gutierrez.
“As a nurse she has a passion for improving quality and patient safety. She has a deep commitment to Plymouth and the surrounding communities, and will ensure that we continue to do what needs to be done to provide the best possible care for all,” he said.
