ARGOS — Bremen boys basketball coach Kyle Hanyzewski was itching to see his new-look Lions play.
You could see why during Wednesday’s season opener.
With stifling defense, Bremen jumped out to an early 18-point lead and cruised to a 44-29 victory over Argos.
“I came here saying we wanted to be 1-0, and we are,” Hanyzewski said. “As a coach and perfectionist I’m going to critique some things I didn’t like, but the bottom line is 1-0.”
Bremen’s pressure on the ball forced 24 turnovers, eight during the first quarter, which set the tone for the entire game.
“That has been an emphasis since we got them together during the summer and in the fall,” Hanyzewski said. “We talk about ball pressure and passing lanes. We’re not there yet but it was a good first showing.”
