Charles ‘Corky’ Ray Lingle
Aug. 28, 1935-Feb. 22, 2013
WALKERTON — Charles “Corky” Ray Lingle, age 77, of Walkerton, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at 1:35 a.m., at home with his loving family by his side.
Corky was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Angola, to Raymond C. and Violet “Posie” Adele (Platt) Lingle. He was married, for 32 years, to Dixie Lee Stewart. They were married Dec. 1, 1957, in Bourbon. Corky worked for Wagner Wire and Easy Heat Wirecraft, in the maintenance department. Corky loved broadcasting with Roger Wellman and Rick Derf during the Rochester and Plymouth games. Corky and Rick went under the name, “Big Time Radio”, for 20 years. They made themselves the WTCA voices, of the games, for all who couldn’t attend. When listening to them, you felt like you were packed in the bleachers with the crowd, eating a bag of popcorn, with your eyes glued to the game. You always knew how Plymouth was doing, by the volume of their voices, being yelled into their microphones. Tony Ross of WTCA Radio said, “they were like Batman and Robin.” Corky will be fondly remembered as the sports voice on the radio. Corky also loved the Green Bay Packers and playing golf.
Corky is survived by his three daughters, Melissa Sue (John) Knepper of Argos and grandchildren, Christopher Holland of Belle Fourche, S.D., Amy Holland of Plymouth, and Austin Knepper of Plymouth; Shelly Rae Whitaker of Plymouth and grandchildren, Amanda Whitaker of Plymouth, Alleigh (Jeff) Allen of Rochester, Lexi Smith of Plymouth, Jordan Smith of Rochester, and great-grandson Brayson of Plymouth; Annastazia Rae Hernandez of Logansport and grandchildren, Yadira, Karlos, and Petra all of Logansport; his son, Charles Ray Lingle II of Walkerton; his sister, Barbara Jean (Maurice) Wood of Sarasota, Fla.; and a niece, Patti Rae. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Steven.
