BREMEN — Poor ice conditions for the second year in a row have forced The Bremen Conservation Club to cancel the annual ice fishing derby.
Instead, the conservation club will have a breakfast buffet and raffle at the VFW/American Legion from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013.
“Disappointed,” Lowell Michaels, with the conservation club, said earlier this week of the this year’s derby cancellation.
Had the Ice Fishing Derby gone as planned, it would have been the 10th year for the event. Nearly 125 people participated in 2011, the last time the conservation club was able to have the derby. This year’s event was originally set for Jan. 26, and then moved to Feb. 9.
All usual breakfast buffet items will be served during the buffet and all ice derby items will be raffled. The raffle will include $250, $150 and $100 in cash, ice fishing rod and reel combos, miscellaneous other fishing articles, tools, oil changes and local merchant gift cards.
A separate youth raffle will feature a fishing hut from Travel Tenders of Goshen, a $75 gift card from the Working Person’s Store, $50 Walmart gift card, and other fishing-related items.
Breakfast only is $7 for adults and $3 for youth 14 and under. To take part in the raffle and breakfast the price is $10 for adults and $6 for youth.
The raffle is 10:30 a.m. Winners need not be present.
A separate raffle for a guided bass fishing trip for two will also be offered. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. The trip will take place on a local lake using lures and techniques that are effective in our area.
Proceeds from the event will be shared with the Bremen Boys and Girls Club.
Come have breakfast, win some cash or other items and support the local Conservation Club, Boys and Girls Club and the VFW/American Legion.
