MERRILLVILLE — Only three area teams remain as IHSAA football sectionals continue around the state this Friday.
Culver (8-3) will attempt to defend its Class A Sectional 33 title as it plays host to South Central (9-2), while Bremen (8-3) hits the road for Garrett (6-5) in a bid for the program’s first sectional crown in well over a decade in Class 2A Sectional 26 action, and John Glenn (9-2) travels to No. 6 Andrean to vie for its first sectional title since 2004 in the 3A Sectional 17 championship.
Its always a delicate balance between staying focused on your opponents each week while planning for the future.
One advantage the Falcons have is that the state-ranked, three-time defending sectional champion Fighting 59ers have been the presumptive tourney favorites all season long.
Despite Friday’s game representing the two programs’ first meeting, Glenn won’t have much guesswork to do as it attempts to dethrone Andrean.
“I think that going into sectionals everybody would tell you that Andrean is the team to beat. I don’t think that’s any surprise,” said John Glenn head football coach Justin Bogunia. “Ever since the Jimtown game we’ve been working on things to make us better against a team like that. Jimtown helped us out in that aspect, helping us prepare for a tough game... We’ve definitely been adding things and working on things to make us a better team going into the playoffs. We’ve definitely got things we’re going to pull out this Friday on offense.
