WAKARUSA — Wakarusa Dime Store is saluting Notre Dame for its’ undefeated season with this year’s release of a new flavor of Jumbo Jelly Beans honoring the tradition of Notre Dame Football.
Candies come and go but the Wakarusa Dime Store’s Jumbo Jelly Beans have been around for 44 years. First introduced as a specialty candy for the Wakarusa Maple Syrup Festival, the candy has caught on and continues to grow by leaps and bounds since 1969.
Selling just more than 100 pounds in its first year, the Wakarusa Dime Store sold close to 100 tons in calendar year 2012.
This year’s new flavor was released early, in time for the National Championship Football Game, and are blue and gold (blueberry and golden lemon). Also in honor of Notre Dame’s success in the 2012 season the Wakarusa Dime Store, seeing that Alabama’s colors are red and white sold no RED jellybeans on Friday, Dec. 28 during the introduction of the Blue & Gold Jumbo Jelly Beans.
