PLYMOUTH — Clothing retailer Rue21 has announced a plan to open in the former Blockbuster store on Pilgrim Lane.
“Plymouth offers a great opportunity to further advance our brand in the Midwest region of the country,” said Rue21 senior real estate manager Brandon Clawson via email.
Clawson continued, “The (Pilgrim Place) center is positioned strongly within the market and houses a number of retailers. This provides us with great exposure. Our position along the highway is great to gain the customers who are traveling in and out of the area.”
Rue21 is geared to teens and young adults, and its name comes from the French word for street combined with the number 21, which is “the age everybody wants to be,” according to the company’s website.
About 10 to 12 employees will be hired to work in the new store, which is scheduled to open in February 2013. The Rue21 store closest to Plymouth currently is located on Ireland Road in South Bend. The company also has stores in Warsaw and in Goshen.
“(The Plymouth store) allows us to extend our presence in underserved retail markets,” said Clawson. “We can be the place to shop for teens.”
Rue21 has 875 stores in 47 states, and an expansion plan to open 100 new stores annually. The company is based in Warrendale, Pa.
