The Starke County Commissioners are seeking interested, qualified and community-minded individuals for 2013 board appointments. Following is a list of available appointments:
Starke Regular Drain Board – One Commission appointment, three-year term.
Kankakee Iroquois Regional Plan Commission (KIRPC) – Two Commission appointments, one-year term.
Planning Commission – One Commission appointment (Republican), four-year term.
Health Board – Two Commission appointments (one Democrat and one Republican) four-year term.
Board of Zoning Appeals – Two Commission appointments, a one-year appointment to fill an unexpired term and a four-year term; and one Council appointment, four-year term.
Starke County Library Board – One Commission and one Council appointment, four-year term.
Aviation Board – One Commission appointment (Republican), four-year term.
Hospital Community Board – Two Commission appointments, four-year term.
Alcoholic Beverage Board – One Commission appointment (Republican) and one Council appointment (Democrat), one-year term.
Regional Workforce Board – Commission appointment as recommended by Starke County Economic Development Director Charles Weaver.
Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals (PTABOA) - Two Commission appointments (one Democrat and one Republican), one-year term.
Innkeepers Tax/Visitors Association Board – Three Commission appointments (political balance required), four-year term.
The following appointments are County-appointed positions on City of Knox boards and require that interested parties live outside the city, but within a two-mile radius. The two-mile jurisdiction is defined by the City as follows: East of Knox, from the City limits to C.R. 600 E.; west of Knox, from the City limits to C.R. 200 E.; north of Knox, from the City limits to C.R. 200 N.; and south of Knox, from the City limits to C.R. 300 S.
City of Knox Plan Commission – Two Commission appointments (one Democrat and one Republican), one appointment is a one-year term and one is a two-year term.
City of Knox Board of Zoning Appeals – One Commission appointment, a one-year term to fulfill the unexpired term of a previously appointed predecessor.
As indicated, Indiana Code requires that some of the positions require specific party affiliation to maintain political balance. Party affiliation is determined by the most recent primary election in which the individual voted or a current letter of support provided by the party chairman. Current board members may be given preference for a subsequent term.
