CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral, Fla. resident George W. Williams died Oct. 6, 2012 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla. George was a kind, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His family cherished his intelligence and charity to everyone in his life. George’s love, influence and character will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
George was born in Connersville Feb. 1, 1920 to George and Anna Williams. He attended Connersville High School where he graduated in 1938. George was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He proudly served during WWII stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Just before his overseas military deployment George married Hilda Bautz July 3, 1943. After completing his tour of duty he began working for Local Finance Corporation. His 30 year career with the company took him and his family from Connersville to Elwood and eventually to Plymouth in 1957 when George was promoted to Vice President and area supervisor for northern Indiana.
While living in Plymouth, George participated in many organizations. He was instrumental as the primary founder of the Plymouth High School Athletic Booster Club. He also served as president of the Plymouth Country Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Upon retirement in 1980, George and Hilda moved to Palm Harbor, Fla. This was home until 1993 when they relocated to Cape Coral, Fla.
George is survived by Hilda, his wife of 69 years, and their three children and spouses, David A. Williams (Sandra) of Heath, Texas; Daniel G. Williams (Linda) of Carrollton, Texas; and Richard P. Williams (Mary Jane) of Cape Coral, Fla., as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Coral, Fla. In lieu of flowers, George has requested memorials be made to one’s charity of choice.
