The Culver Chamber of Commerce's annual scarecrow contest returns this year, with registration deadline set at October 8.
Merchants, businesses, individuals, church or school groups, organizations, or anyone else wishing to have fun and promote community spirit is encouraged to take part.
Scarecrows will "hit the streets" starting Friday, October 12 and through that weekend, with voting taking place October 15. Scarecrows will be removed by Thursday, November 1.
The $10 entry fee includes cornstalks and a sign for the name of the scarecrow, which is to be secured to the designated lightpost unobtrusively (with twine, cable ties, fishing line, etc). No sharp objects are allowed, and please bear in mind that the scarecrow will be exposed to the elements, when planning your scarecrow. Straw or hay may be used as accents.
Scarecrows are encouraged to be named creatively, though no corporate logos or business names are allowed. A panel of judges will determine "best of scarecrows."
The Chamber will notify participants of pole location and provide a sign for each scarecrow once all registration forms are received. Forms are available at Cafe Max, Fisher & Company Clothiers, Culver Coffee Company, Osborn's Mini-Mart, Culver Express, Civvies, and Diva.
The "best of scarecrows" will receive a gift basket including a cash prize, gift cards, and discounts from area businesses. Those with questions may contact Marian Reinhold at 574-842-3337.View more articles in:
