Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman visited the J.W. Hicks facilities in Knox Tuesday as part of her Hoosier Crossroads Tour. Skillman, who is nearing the end of her second term as Indiana’s lieutenant governor, has been very active in her support of economic development and the growth of Indiana businesses.
The Hoosier Crossroads Tour, which started in July 2011, will take her to all 92 counties in Indiana visiting local businesses and meeting with local officials. Before coming to Knox, she traveled to Pulaski County to tour Fratco, a plastic drainage pipe manufacturer in Francesville.
JW Hicks Inc., a refractory maker for the metals industry, started in Merrillville in 1988, and added its slidegate refractory plant at 20 S. Kloeckner Dr. in the Knox Industrial Park in 1998. During the past year, a refractory recycling facility was added at the back of its original location and built a new precast shape manufacturing plant on the southwest corner of Kloeckner Drive and CR 50 S.
