ELKHART — Plymouth’s boys soccer team gave up a late goal to Elkhart Memorial, and the Rockies were forced to settle for a 1-1 Northern Lakes Conference tie on the road Thursday.
It was the second straight game where a late letdown wound up costing Plymouth after CMA handed the Rockies a narrow 2-1 loss Tuesday.
“We are disappointed but not unhappy with that result,” said Plymouth boys soccer coach Josh Martin. “Obviously we need to deal with our psychological letdowns, which have been a frequent occurrence for us this season. We just gave CMA a go-ahead goal on Tuesday in the dying minutes of that game as well.”
Cesar Aguilar gave Plymouth a tenuous 1-0 advantage with a long snipe in the 44th minute, and the Rockies maintained the advantage until Juan Gonzalez knotted the game up in the 76th minute.
“Our center midfielders did some of the really heavy lifting for the team tonight chasing balls down, pressuring the Memorial build-up, and trying to pass our forwards and wide middies into the Memorial box,” said Martin. “Cesar Aguilar, Nolan Wright, Antonio Calderon and Gonzalo Figueroa had a nice rotation going for us in the center of the pitch, and Aguilar managed to score us a surprise goal from distance.”
The Rockies move to 3-6-4 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play, while Memorial now stands at 0-8-3 with a 0-3-2 NLC mark.
