PLYMOUTH — Marshall County will soon be helping out the town of Argos when it comes to building permits.
Argos town clerk Patty Jones and town council member Mark VanDerWeele visited the Marshall County commissioners meeting Monday to discuss the county’s possible assistance.
“We are looking for a consistency in our building permits,” said Jones, adding that their town officials do not have the opportunity to stay up to date on building regulations as county officials do.
The town of Argos only issues between 25 and 50 building permits each year.
County building inspector Chuck DeWitt said that doing Argos building permits will not significantly change his job.
“I think this is a good plan, it’s a move to keep things streamlined a little bit,” said Commissioner Jack Roose.
Marshall County will begin providing building permits for the town of Argos in September. Those interested in obtaining a permit can visit the Marshall County website, www.co.marshall.in.us and click on Departments-Building Commissioner for more information and online forms.

• County Attorney Jim Clevenger said that he has reviewed a petition signed by most homeowners along 12th Road from Olive Trail to the Pear Road, and some on Peach Road, requesting that the speed limit be reduced from 40 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour. Clevenger added that this change would allow golf carts on those roads according to the recently passed ordinance to allow golf carts on county roads with a speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less. Overmyer recommended that Neal Haeck, Highway Department Superintendent, monitor the traffic on the road and report back to the commissioners before they make a decision.
• Ralph Booker, county plan director, brought in property owner Anna Pietrzyk, who was interested in rezoning her property at 7757 Union Road from town residential district to highway commercial district. She plans to open an antique store at the location. Commissioners suspended the rules and passed a motion to approve the rezoning on all three readings.
