'Courtney's Song' to raise money for injured teen

ARGOS - A pair of Argos High School students hope that something good may come of tragedy.

Richii Zieber and Mat Milliser are friends of Courtney DeMont, the Argos student who remains in critical care after and accident on April 18. The incident struck both deeply.

“It really got me when I heard and I went for a walk,” said Richii remembering that night. “I went to Mat’s house and talked to him because I wanted to do something to help the family and talked about maybe covering a song for her. On the way home I decided I was going to write a song for her.”

Argos Town Council to petition itself for annexation

ARGOS – Now that the purchase of 75 acres of land has been finalized, the town faces one more hurdle - annexation.

In order to do that, the town council voted to petition as a landowner to the governing body, itself. This fulfills statutory requirements for annexation where the landowner is freely requesting the action, Argos town attorney Derek Jones said.

LaVille Schools embracing technology

LAPAZ – Fingernails on the chalkboard are a thing of the past as LaVille Elementary School prepares to install Promethean Boards in its classrooms before school opens in the Fall. While already fully integrated at Laville Jr./Sr. High School, the elementary school has only a few units in place now as a test. While some other county schools have similar technology, Union North schools will be fully equipped as school begins next year.

Police raid nets two on meth charges

PLYMOUTH - Two are in custody after a drug raid on a house on Washington Street in Plymouth yesterday.

Plymouth Police and Marshall County Sheriff's deputies served a warrant at the address near the city's downtown on Tuesday morning and made two arrests. At the home were Jamie Scott Wacasey, 34, of Plymouth and Karla Danille Felix, 27, also of Plymouth.

Congresswoman visits with local Chambers

PLYMOUTH — In an invitation only meeting with members of the Plymouth and Culver Chambers of Commerce and a few local officials, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski listened, took notes and commented on local and regional concerns Tuesday afternoon in Plymouth.

It was the culmination of a 10-county, two-day ”Building Better Business” tour across her district to touch base with the business community.

Community rallying in support of injured teen

ARGOS - As an Argos teen continues to fight for her life an entire community is rallying around her and her family.

Courtney DeMont was critically injured in a vehicle accident on Kenilworth Road on April 18. Since then Courtney has been in critical care slowly fighting back from her injuries, while the entire Marshall County Community has prayed for her recovery.

Courtney’s father Dan DeMont told friends and family yesterday that her recovery continues as doctors begin the weaning process to take her off a ventilator currently helping her breath.

City to donate $100,000 towards clinic expansion

PLYMOUTH — The Community Resource Center has a boost in the checkbook for a clinic expansion project on East Washington Street, but it did not get a loan it requested from the City.

Plymouth Town Council members approved a resolution granting the Center $100,000, but denied an additional $75,00 loan request. This decision was made at the council meeting Monday night.

Police standoff ensues during medical call

PLYMOUTH - Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Argos
Police and Bourbon Police were involved in a standoff on Wednesday night.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. officers responded to a residence on 11A Road in Plymouth. The Officers had been sent there to perform a welfare
check on a possible suicidal male subject. The male subject was reported to have contacted a suicide hotline and expressed a desire to harm himself.

Drivers urged to be cautious on roadways when farmers are present

MARSHALL COUNTY - Farmers across the county are anxious to get back in their fields and that means farm equipment traveling county roads to get back to those fields.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department and the Marshall County Farm Bureau want motorists to remember to be on the lookout for slow moving vehicles, marked with the orange triangular signs. Vehicles marked with an SMV sign are traveling 25 miles per hour or slower.

Jogging for a cause

PLYMOUTH - The PTO at Jefferson Elementary in Plymouth has hit on a good way to tackle two problems with one solution.

Raising money for school programs is always important and PTO's have used many different methods over the years to help their particular school. More and more people are becoming aware of childhood obesity in
the United States and the need for young people to exercise regularly.

At Jefferson they tackled both this week as the PTO sponsored their Jog For Jefferson program.
