Little Miss and Mister Blueberry

September 2, 2014

PLYMOUTH — Jake and Taylor Rodriguez were crowned as the official Little Mister King and Little Miss Queen at the 26th annual Little Mister and Miss pageant Friday evening. The pair is the first brother and sister combination to win simultaneously during a blueberry pageant.
The boys winners were fifth place Cruz Rosas, fourth place Dolan Berkeypile, third place Ryen Hundt, second place Brylen Vanvactor, and first place Jake Rodriguez.
Runners up for the girls were Ava Vanderwheel, Emersyn Adkins, Allysianna Hughes, Elenor Densmore, and Kaeli Reed.

Balanced Calendar for Marshall County Schools

MARSHALL COUNTY — Several Marshall County Schools have been considering moving to a balanced calendar for the 2015-2016 school year. Of those that are considering a move, Argos schools, Culver schools, Bremen schools, and Union North have chosen not to set gears in motion for a shift.
The Pilot News asked local superintendents to identify some of the common questions they are receiving about the proposed shift to a balanced calendar.

Bond process cleared for LaVille schools

LAPAZ/LAKEVILLE — The Union North United School Corporation board of trustees approved the resolution confirming the amendment to lease and approving the first mortgage bonds for the 2014-2015 year.

The money is to be used for necessary construction projects at the schools. Among the projects is the plan to redo the parking lot in the jr.-sr. high school area, beautification of the buildings, and the finishing of the roofing project.

Process of establishing a conservancy district outlined at county lakes council

DONALDSON — Thursday’s meeting of the Marshall County Lakes & Waters Council was all about establishing conservancy districts.

Since conservancy districts are entities that can employ taxes or user fees, many people were hesitant or wary of the idea; however, guest speaker attorney Ethan Lowe made it clear that conservancy districts are created with a purpose in mind and adhere to strict rules.

County police investigating report of police impersonator

MARSHALL COUNTY — The sheriff's office is investigating a report of a possible police impersonator, based on a report from Aug. 16.

In the press release, police said the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 on Plymouth-Goshen Trail south of US 30 just outside of PLymouth.

The Marshall County Police received a report of a possible Police Impersonator. There has been only one incident reported which occurred on Saturday, August 16th, 2014, around 5:30pm on Plymouth-Goshen trail south of US30 just outside of Plymouth.

Lakeville farmer okay after lightning strike

LAKEVILLE — A Lakeville resident was given a fright when lightning struck near him while he was working on his farm on Aug. 26.

Phil Shafer, 51, was working on a Bobcat skid loader when at 10:54 a.m., lightning struck near the implement.

“We took out a first responder unit, an EMT ambulance, and paramedic ambulance that went. We had a whole team of people there in case you need them,” said Mike Hargreaves, a firefighter and EMT with the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department.

Hargreaves reported that Shafer awake and talking before he was taken to the hospital.
