Tennis Courts on hold

PLYMOUTH — A press release from City Attorney Sean Surrisi on behalf of Plymouth Tennis Club Project committee Chair, Sarah Smith announced the new tennis facility in Centennial Park would be put on hold.
"This pause will allow the organizations to better address the remaining questions before moving forward."

July storm causes server damage at Union North School Corporation

Union North School Board Corporation has had a hiccup in their ability to serve their students better. After the July 1 electrical storm that ran through the northern Indiana area, the school discovered that five of their servers had been damaged in the storm. The corporation has spent $140,000 to replace the five servers and $1,300 for the Apple computer that updates student iPads.
"It's going to be a slow and bumpy process, but our tech group has done an outstanding job to ensure what we do have," Superintendent Mitchell Mawhorter explained.

Local alcohol board approves renewals

MARSHALL COUNTY — A half-dozen automatic renewals were approved at the monthly meeting of the county's alcohol beverages commission meeting.

One additional application is pending the outcome of a violation in which alcohol was sold on Christmas. The business representative said the equipment failed to lock out the purchase as it was supposed to do, allowing the clerk to proceed with the transaction.

City zoning board OKs odor control station; sign requests

PLYMOUTH — In response to complaints about odors from a Michigan Street sewer, the City will set up an odor control station after the Board of Zoning Appeal approved the request Tuesday evening.

Also approved were various sign requests, including 14 at the Applebee's restaurant. These include new awnings which feature the restaurant chain's new branding.

Pink bench honors memory of mother

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth High School graduate John Stillson's essay in a scholarship contest sponsored by Ounce of Prevention, stirred the emotions. So much so, that the local breast cancer awareness organization decided to recognize him in a special and heart-felt way.

John Glenn HIgh student handbook will address e-cigarettes

WALKERTON — The John Glenn School board approved changes to the high school student's handbook yesterday, including adding a policy statement regarding electronic cigarettes and video-taping of students.

These were some of the changes that school officials say is necessary to stay current with technology while protecting concerns such as student privacy.

In other action the board approved the purchase of $90,000 worth of chromebooks; heard an update on the tennis court project on campus; and were given an overview of the proposed $16 million budget for next year.

One step closer with each cup of lemonade

PLYMOUTH — Organizers of Alex's Lemonade Stand at Jellystone Campground were hoping this Saturday's event would top last year's fundraiser to fight children's cancer, as lemonade, golf cart washes and raffles combined to raise money in honor of two area children who died this year from cancer.

The event is organized by residents and guests at the campground. This year's goal was $6,000.

The story of Ryan Beining, an eight-year-old boy from Plymouth who died in March is featured in today's Pilot News.
