Plymouth marathoners escape Boston bombing

BOSTON, MA - The tragedy of the bombings in Boston had a local link that thankfully had a happier ending for two Plymouth residents.

Paul Patrick and Jamie Holm were both runners in the Boston Marathon on Monday where bombs marred the ending of the annual event with three deaths and more than 100 hurt. Fortunately for them they had both finished the race well before the bombs exploded.

“The clock in the news reports read a race time of four hours ten minutes but that was actually the third wave of runners,” said Patrick.

Feds deny a suspect is in custody

BOSTON (AP) — Police and reporters converged on the federal courthouse in Boston on Wednesday amid conflicting reports of whether a suspect was in custody in the marathon bombings that killed three people and wounded more than 170.

Several media outlets reported earlier in the day that a suspect had been identified from surveillance video taken at a Lord & Taylor store between the sites of the two bomb blasts.

Truck driver dies

BREMEN — Police suspect a medical problem caused a semi-tractor trailer driver to veer off U.S. 6 and down an embankment north of Bremen Monday morning.
The accident occurred at 10:44 a.m. just west of Miami Trail.
The driver was identified as 51-year-old Edward E Heward, of Romney, W.Va. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release issued by the County Cornoner’s office late Monday.
The driver was westbound on U.S. 6, west of Miami Trail, in a 2005 Freightliner at about 10:45 a.m. when he went off the road’s north side, coming to a rest 300-400 feet from the roadway.

Police, coroner investigate inmate death at Marshall County jail

The Marshall County Coroner and the Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a Culver man while an inmate at the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Plymouth.

44-year-old Kerry A. Pinder of Culver died suddenly Sunday morning while awaiting release from the facility. Marshall County coroner Bill Cleavenger says neither violence nor foul play is suspected. An autopsy by Dr. Joseph Prahlow, a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist, was expected to be conducted Monday in Mishawaka. Pinder had been an inmate at the facility since early Saturday morning.
