Local business celebrates 35 years in downtown

PLYMOUTH — It’s been a fun ride according to Jeff Jones, President of Anco Office Products.
“Back when we opened, we had no outside commercial accounts,” he said “Dad serviced our customers’ mechanical machines and I delivered most of the items on my Suzuki motorcycle!”
In 1975, Jones and his father bought out Anco Office Equipment on Water Street and moved to Michigan Street to the building formerly occupied by Plymouth Office Supply.

Complaint made about conflict of interest

PLYMOUTH — The interpretation of the Indiana State codes concerning filing “conflict of interest” statements prompted the Marshall County Democrat-ic Party to not only issue a press release Monday, but also to file an official complaint with the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office.
In its press release, the Democrats assert that current Marshall County Councilwoman Judith Stone, failed to file “conflict of interest” statements concerning county projects and payments made to two companies (Custom Tower Sys-tems, Inc. and CTS Realty) in which Stone’s husband has a 50 percent interest.

Area escaped hot summer's wrath

PLYMOUTH — Although many area yards had a crouton-like look and feel over the last six weeks, it has been a lucky summer for Marshall County and much of Northern Indiana.
Currently 54 Indiana counties were locked into active burn bans, while Marshall County entered fall without making the sizable list.

Fun on the way for OOP fundraiser

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Country Club will become “MargariTATAville” this year on Oct. 2 as Marshall County’s Ounce of Prevention Foundation will hold its annual fundraiser.
Fun is the theme for the evening as residents are invited to come share food and drink while raising money to fight breast cancer. The festivities begin at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available at Oliver Ford in Plymouth. The menu includes island food including Hot Mama salsa and chips, specialty drinks and contests such as Low-Down Limbo, TaTa Twist and coconut races.

Plymouth city budget has an easy night

PLYMOUTH – After a stormy process of putting it together, the 2011 budget for the city of Plymouth had a very quiet public hearing last night.
After a month of consternation over raises and paid holidays the Plymouth Common Council held its public hearing on the coming year’s budget and if initial public reaction is any indication, the Council appears to have arrived at a budget that’s at least acceptable to the public.
No one spoke for or against the budget when the floor was opened for public comment.

City will look at policy for monitor wells

PLYMOUTH – It’s time for the city of Plymouth to take a look at a recent trend by businesses in the area according to City Engineer Rick Gaul.
Gaul came before the Board of Public Works and Safety to discuss the drilling of monitor wells around by businesses around the city. Who will be responsible for those wells in city right of ways if damage should occur was Gaul’s concern.

Parishioners will celebrate cornerstone’s 100th anniversary

PLYMOUTH — The 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of St. Michael Catholic Church, 611 N. Center St., Plymouth, will be celebrated with a special Mass and a buffet dinner for parishioners and friends Wednesday, Sept. 29.
“We will also be celebrating the St. Michael Feast of the Archangels Day,” Father William Kummer, pastor of the church since August of 2002, said. “Every year, we try to do something special on our name day. Last year, we dedicated our school’s new playground.”

Oliver Ford’s help is music to their ears

PLYMOUTH — Ford Motor Company and Oliver Ford are doing what they can to keep the music playing in Plymouth.
John Oliver III of Oliver Ford had the pleasure of presenting Plymouth High School Band Director Bryan Ames and Plymouth High School Principal Jim Condon a check for $5,720 for the Plymouth Music Boosters as part of Ford’s Drive One 4 UR School program.

Project bids awarded

LAKEVILLE — During a meeting last night, the Union-North School Board approved the awarding of bids for the LaVille Elementary School project.
Bonds for the $4.2 million project will be offered for sale today.
Superintendent Terry Bar-ker made the recommendation to hold the project at the $4.2 million cost, but did indicate that there were other improvements that could have been made within the project.

New fund will help the future of Club

PLYMOUTH — One local couple is making an investment in the future of the community.
Paul and Carol Nye, working with the Marshall County Community Foundation, have set up a special fund to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County. The Pendergast, Rosander, Nye Fund will help the club for years to come.
“The whole reason for us doing this is the Boys & Girls Club,” said Carol. “We feel the Club is so important to the community and that’s why we’re here, to give back to the community.”
